As a former army recruiter I have to agree. I'm glad I got out of that job because I really couldn't handle having to feed Dubya's BS campaign.

The army made its goal recruiting by lowering the standards a helluva lot. Thats a move that will cost later.

Amen MW, and I don't know why I never hear anyone else saying that. People aren't joining in large numbers because they don't trust our leaders.

Best way to increase the size of the armed forces? Give them a Commander in Chief that won't get them stuck in a killing field.

Don't expect any major increase in enlistments before 2008. I'd expect a surge at that point if McCain or a Democrat wins. Either someone who'll fight this war smarter, or someone who'll end the war.

I don't think Jeremy's for real, I think he simply disagrees, and instead of having the balls to have an honest conversation, he tries to impugn the author's motives.

I see this crap all the time on the Web and on TV and in letters to the editor. Why can't we talk honestly in this country anymore? Why do people resort to whining and tantrums instead of talking about the issues?

"I can't believe you have the balls to compare the Coast Guard to the Girls Scouts. I think it is pretty clear that you have no respect for our servicemen."

Let me get this straight: Wanting our servicemen to come home alive rather than dying for no discernable cause = having no respect for our servicemen. Got it.

Unless you have any cookies to sell me, Jeremy, shut yer yap.

...Just kidding. But you sure do seem to have a chip on your shoulder about the Coast Guard. Nobody's comparing them to girlscouts, so chill, buddy.

Yeah, talk about seeing what you want to see. Some people just love to get angry even if they have to make something up to be angry about. I'm sure you misread it, Jeremy.

Oh come on, Jeremy, he wasn't comparing the Coast Guard to Girl Scouts any more than he was comparing "shifting more troops from elsewhere" to the Girl Scouts, so calm the fuck down.

I have to say though, you seem awfully defensive.

I can't believe you have the balls to compare the Coast Guard to the Girls Scouts. I think it is pretty clear that you have no respect for our servicemen. I can confidently say that you haven't been on a 210' ship with 411 hatians that you just stopped from entering the US; or been to a hatian port delivering UN supplies and getting shot at. Once you are in touch with what the Coast Guard does, then you can compare them to the Girl Scouts... until then, beware of your comments.

Work release would solve it. I would say we should send everyone convicted of white collar crime to Baghdad, but I wouldn't want to inflict that kind of scum on our soldiers.
