This just in: Huckabee is Jesus

Spread the love

According to Mike Huckabee, his recent surge in the polls is due to divine intervention. But now we know Huckabee himself is divine, because the bookcase dressed to look like a cross floats right behind his head. I guess they thought stringing christmas lights around his forehead as if they were a crown of thorns would’ve been a little over the top.

I’m with Ken, I’m only bothered by the denials. That tells me we’ve got another person who thinks we’re stupid running for office.

  2. Ian says:

Christian symbolism doesn’t bother me at all, but it does bother me when it’s coming from a Presidential candidate. And it bugs me more when it’s subliminal, which Huckabee’s denials tell us it was supposed to be.

He’s not just some Christian guy to me. To me, he’s a guy who’s running to lead all of us, Christian, Jewish, Muslim, atheist, etc. If a Presidential candidate’s commercial is going to pimp one religion, it should also at least acknowledge the others exist.

  3. Ken says:

I didn’t intend to be too nice too Huckabee. People who make small talk when I have serious questions piss me off. I respected Huckabee’s sincerity and commitment to his values. This just makes him look like a lightweight.
Further, I can’t understand why he’s denying the Christian symbolism. Here’s a Christian, talking about Jesus and Christmas. What’s an extra religious symbol? The cross doesn’t bother me. The inability to either notice it or acknowledge it does.
Good luck to my Christian Republican friends out there. The choices ain’t pretty.

I, too, hate the Crazy Vegetarian Chick (Roxanne). Hate is too mild a word for how I feel about the CVC.

But she’s one of those people I love to hate, like Newman on Seinfeld.

Anyhow, about Huckaboom, I really think this sort of thing’s going to backfire. I’m a Republican and a Christian, but I’m sick to death of the theocrats who’ve hijacked the party. After eight years of this crap, the last thing we need is eight more. The “moral majority” crowd needs to be marginalized, because their influence is waaaay out of whack compared to their actual numbers.

I appreciate Ken giving Huck the benefit of the doubt, but I can’t honestly say that I believe a presidential candidate would spend millions just to say “merry christmas.” The not-so-subtle messianic symbolism is the obvious reason for this ad’s existence.

Cruella DeVil was so misunderstood! 😉

  6. sponge888 says:

People actually like Roxanne? Well, I suppose that there are fans of Cruella Deville out there too… I could easily see Roxanne with a coat made out of kittens…

  7. Angela says:

Oh, and Huckajesus needs to run for Pope or something. What with his “angels helped me kill an antelope” nonsense, this is getting ridiculous.

  8. Angela says:

Am I the only one who likes Roxanne? I agree with her most of the time!

  9. sponge888 says:

Not commenting about Huckabee here… I really love the strip. You always do such a great job. Though, recently I’ve been finding the storyline about Roxanne not so pleasant. She’s a real downer. Here’s hoping that you’ll soon kick the storyline into high gear and have Lemont somehow kick her to the curb and get sole custody of Lionel. Thanks again for a great strip!

LOL! I’m a Director of Photography, and believe me, this sort of thing is not a coincidence. Look how the dark tree and Huck’s dimly-lit head frame the brightly-lit “book case.” Things like that don’t just happen coincidentally. If I’d let a bookcase become the focus of the shot rather than the politician’s face by accident, I wouldn’t work again.

If this was a professionally-produced piece, they obviously wanted to evoke the cross.

  11. Ken says:

It struck me as more of a Tiny Tim moment. “God bless us, everyone.”
It seems very odd to me that a guy that’s still trying to introduce himself to voters didn’t have more to say than “Merry Christmas.” It’s a lovely sentiment but not the message that a cash-starved campaign would invest in if they have any interest in talking about issues.
