Wonderful tribute to a wonderful series to an obvious wonderful man and Grandfather!

Somewhere in Heaven, there is a newspaper rolled up in the pocket of an angel. It has Candorville in it.

  3. bcmayes says:

And so it concludes. Bravo, Darrin! (though we expected nothing less)

  4. Kathyc says:

This was touching tribute to your grandfather–I can't remember the last time a comic touched me so much. You are a special grandson.

  5. KathyL says:

I'm a faithful reader of your strip in the LA Times, and was enjoying the strip this week–I thought you were making a commentary on how the real heroes in life are not the famous ones. But when today's strip revealed this wonderful man was your grandfather, like many other readers, I burst into tears. Thank you so much for sharing the story of your grandfather with us–I feel privileged to know about him. My condolences to you and your family on the loss of such an unforgettable man. You have done him proud.

  6. JV says:

Darren, I would just like to add my appreciation to the many comments on your recent tribute to your grandfather. Poignant and well-earned. People like Mr. Bell are the glue that keeps our fragile world from blowing completely to smithereens. They deserve our most sincere thanks and recognition and you accomplished that for your grandfather and all the Mr. Emmet Roscoe Bell’s of this world.

  7. Richard Gerlitz says:

I was touch by your kind portrayal of your grandfathers passing. I suspected early the gentleman was family by the same last name. Beautifully done!

  8. Rev. Patricia says:

My sincerest condolences. Yesterday I didn't get it; today's strip spelled it out. How wonderful that you had such a special realtionship. And what a blessing that you had all that time with him. I hold you in prayer as you move thru this grieving, releasing time.

  9. MTG says:

I was literally moved to tears when today's strip revealed that the tribute was not just to the well-lived life of a 94-year old veteran, but to your grandfather. Well done.

  10. Tim Jackson says:

    Excellent tribute Darrin!

  11. Pdq says:

You are an awesome cartoonist – naw, just make that, you are an awesome person, and please, please keep up your good work.

  12. Doug Morrison says:

That's the most touching strip I've read in a very long time. It will stay with me a long time. Thank you.

  13. Sandra says:

The article was loving, kind and wonderful. The comics are the result of love that endures.

  14. kencollier says:

His grandson is a world-class cartoonist because he is able to convey great universal truths in small moments.

  15. guest says:

My sincere condolences on your loss. It is well and (I suspect) painfully portrayed very well of recent.
