Candorville: 8/6/08- Her and I

This cartoon is about:
Lemont, relationships, respect, grammar, pronouns, interruptions, arrogance, presumption, education, English

Transcript:
Panel One:
Woman: …So I told him, “you’d better have respect if y ou want to talk to her and I.”
Lemont: Excuse me…

Panel Two:
Lemont: The proper usage is “her and me,” because if you were to drop the “her” pronoun, it would be “you’d better have respect if you want to talk to I.”

Panel Three:
Lemont: “Y’see, both pronouns have to be able to work alone, or the sentence is gramatically incorrect.”

Panel Four:
Woman: She and I don’t give a @#$%!
Lemont: Good! Good! That works!

I’m an English major, and I can tel you, it’s frustrating to hear al these gramatical erors, when you yourself never make any of these comon mistakes in syntax or speling. Real life neds a profreader.

It really irks me, too, when the people on TELEVISION have poor grammar… What in the world are the WRITERS of the scripts being “paid for” (ending the sentence with a preposition, you note?).

  4. dinkster Says:

Wow! This is the second time in as many weeks that I’ve had to look at how much I need to brush up on my grammar! This reminder was handled in a much better way than the other. Good job!

  5. PacKiT0 Says:

It’s not only on television, also on some shops you might find banners reading “Womans” or “Mens” and other serious mistakes… I was shocked, and English is not my first language. :p
