    The payment center is a Bell Telephone payment center, which further dates the strip to 1982. They were kind of like the wireless service and payment centers so common today, except that they owned the phones…which were bigger, didn’t come in quite as many colors, and had to be plugged into a phone line in order to work. Did I mention that they owned the phones?

    They still work afro pick sticking out of their hair in ’82? I thought that was the era of the scary curl! I can identify with the meaning of this cartoon. Is being told this a cartoonist thing ?

    What was at first a telephone and message machine is now Lemont’s “Momma”. FANTASTIC transformation. Love the background pics, also. But, why the “Payment Center”?
