  1. Marie says:

Wow, I didn't know delusional people had handbooks! There must be a repub/conservative version as well. I see it among my in-laws, and it's mind-boggling.

  2. Jumpin' Jack Flash says:

I live in Texas, and I was profoundly mortified when Mr. perry went spouting this latest claptrap. All I can say is that I’m looking forward to Election Day, either voting against perry directly, or better yet, in a gubernatorial race that doesn’t involve this nimrod at all.

  3. Ken says:

Rick Perry was Governor every day of the eight years of Bush administration and happily embraced the Bush/Cheney authoritarianism. Then, within a couple of months of the inauguration, Perry suddenly discovers an “oppressive” federal government. Apparently, the strings attached to federal unemployment benefits were much more troubling to him than wiretapping, torture, the massive spending of Medicare part D, and the federal takeover of schools.

Perry is a political opportunist who is desperate to find an issue other than his record. On the day he became the longest serving governor in Texas history announced a new bold initiative — a “Choose Life” license plate design. So, this is not a guy who has a lot to brag about and in the past he’s irritated the conservative base by trying to take land for private toll roads and mandating HPV vaccines for Texas schoolgirls. He was desperate to get back into the good graces of the far right and needs to talk about anything other than himself. He needed a diversion and secession let with play with the tax issue while also playing with the old states rights code words.

Perry surely understands that some of the fear that he’s cashing in on is stoked by race. I wish he would speak clearly out against the bigotry than remains strong in pockets of this state. However, he lacks the courage or leadership skills to effectively stand up to the worst of our state.
