  1. Yes. I hate that ill usage of a perfectly fine way of indicating dialogue. That’s only one of many punctuation infractions of the English language. Have you ever noticed that no one seems to make those kind of mistakes in any other language but English? Have you wondered why ? Look into it. Google it. Live it.
P.S. I also detest “would of” , “could of” and “sort of”
    Whoops ! XD

    • Honey says:

"Would of" detestation? I like the phrase, "Don't should on yourself" Hahaha. It's from the would of, could of, should of group.

  2. Peacezgood says:

I sort of "like" this strip. It gives "meaning" to the words that are unspoken. Those words are, "I'm an egotistical maniac who is talking down to you in a sarcastic manner, thinking that you will overlook the words in the quotation marks if you get angry at me". In that way, the person using the quotes gets off the hook. It's like blaming a third party for what you are actually saying.

    • @sugarkat says:

Funny, because when I see the use of extraneous quotation marks, I assume the subtext of their statement is, "I am a complete idiot who doesn't know how to use quotation marks. Please therefore disregard anything and everything I write or say."

      • Chayafradle says:

Egotistical maniacs can also be idiots. they want people to disregard anything and everything they say or write because it lets them off the hood for saying it. It's like, "WHO ME? I DIDN'T JUST SAY IT, SOMEONE ELSE SAID IT", so don't attribute my own words to me. BLAME GAME. Blame someone else, I'm just the messenger kind of thing. I know what you're saying, but I have been SO INSULTED in the past by the use of quotation marks. You can't have a come-back retort to someone who insults you using the quotation marks because they are not owning up to their words coming out of their own mouths.

        • @sugarkat says:

You don't need a comeback. You simply ignore the idiocy, for it is not worth your time.

Most especially if the individual has used air quotes. O, air quotes, how I loathe thee.

  3. @sugarkat says:

Even better is when they place the supposedly derisive yet entirely extraneous quotation marks around the wrong words when expressing their derision, bringing the reader to question, for example, whether or not they're "patriots".

Yes, actually, it is better. Then I can point and laugh, relieving some of the stress built up by my need to correct them.

  4. mellowjohn says:

putting extraneou's apo'strophe's in 'strange place's i's what bug's the 'shit out of me.

    • @sugarkat says:

Or removing them entirely when they're required.

But, yes, I feel like getting a giant red Sharpie out and correcting the sh!t out of unnecessary apostrophes.

  5. Frank Jordan says:

    "That's so true!"

  6. Rick S. says:

One of the forced activities in this place is the reading of "poetry" by e e cummings.

  7. Elayne boosler says:

Especially when they do it "using their fingers".
