I had to laugh when I noticed Clyde's stocking cap shows up on his Xray! great in-gag touch Darrin!

  2. ChayaFradle says:

After seeing the video, I understand C-dog now. He's based after a thug Darrin knew in his past who saved his life one day. I, also, had some gang members help me one day when my car broke down. They were the only ones to stop and help me out. when more affluent people drove by and ignored me. It was a seething, hot day and I could have had heat stroke. I'll never box "bad guys" into a mold any more after that experience.

  3. LA Franklin says:

Rarely do I have the opportunity to change my mind about a topic that draws my ire. Today, after reading Darin Bell's Candorville strip for the first time, my immediate response was "who did this guy think he was, portraying a black character as one who did not use his brain to its greatest potential"? The day after the MLK holiday? Obviously not familiar with the strip, I sought more information about the author and watched a video interview on his website. Rather than being racist, Bell is saying something serious in a humorous way. Imagine that. Clyde Brown's character is a composite of lots of folks, including a sharp witted Hispanic friend Bell knew in high school. Someone who, by Bell's own estimation, probably ran in the wrong circles and like Clyde Brown did not use his brain to the best advantage. Clyde could be any race or gender. Today, he was me. This four window strip left me angry, curious, humored and introspective all at once. Not bad for around 50 words. I will keep reading. Thanks N & O for running this comic strip and others like it.

C-dog (as he is affectionately known to some) is often the "straight man" for Lemont's humor… keep reading it and you will soon be hooked… and yes it does often make me angry… but about issues that Darrin brings up in a humorous way…

    • Darrin Bell says:

Thank you for reading with an open mind, and for taking the time to write. I hope you'll write to the N&O and let them know what you think, too. That's the only way papers know which comics to keep.
