I wonder if people going crazy watching the people of New Orleans suffer far more than those in Mississippi simply because the mayor failed to enact the plan he was provided could help explain why the mayor was reelected? Facing the truth that the mistakes that led to the human toll were almost entirely local would have been too hard?
Why re-elect a criminal mayor? Because of despair, lack of voters per death/disease/disability, and maybe he bribed the ones who did vote. Or maybe there was only one vote cast and that was his own. Maybe no one was rich enough to run against him. As you can see, I am a bit cynical.
