I am the only person having flashbacks to "Reverend Ike"?

Rev. Ike: This pastor gained fame and wealth preaching a gospel of material prosperity, and became a multi millionairre through his radio and TV hustling. He was only the first. Now, there are many like him. They get tax free status, but are actually businessmen and sales people who appeal to your sense of wanting to be Holy combined with wanting to be Rich! I remember. Most out there are too young, Ken. $$$$$$

I confess, I read this comic in a smallish window because I have a live news feed* going in another. So I had to scroll over to the final panel…the perfect setup for today's strip. The final panel was a hoot.

    *NHK World, if anyone cares

The funniest real life application of this sales method was a man I knew who, in order to have the "sole proprietary designation" for his area, was asked to spend $300 a month. It would not be a pyramid scheme, because he'd get products for the money. He didn't understand he'd need to sell the products, but he wanted the title. So, he stacked his garage up as the products kept coming, and his family suffered. Finally, he had to declare bankruptcy. This has been his pattern for the last 30 years. He is now into more schemes and scams. I asked him will he ever realize this is not for him. He got angry, saying I want to destroy his dream. Oy. To me, this is like gambling. Those people appeal to your sense of ego. GREAT cartoon depiction of this aspect of real life! B)
