  1. Jamel King-Rodman says:

In fairness, this verse was added during the Civil War:

When our land is illumined with Liberty’s smile,
If a foe from within strike a blow at her glory,
Down, down with the traitor that dares to defile
The flag of her stars and the page of her story!
By the millions unchained who our birthright have gained,
We will keep her bright blazon forever unstained!
And the Star-Spangled Banner in triumph shall wave
While the land of the free is the home of the brave.

  2. Karen Chaya says:

Eww. CHANGE OUR NATIONAL SONG to Oh Beautiful for Spacious Skies, or This Land is Your Land, this land is my land. As fast as possible, please!

    • Jamel King-Rodman says:

America the Beautiful would be a great choice. Not only do the lyrics lack any reference to slavery, but the song itself is actually a celebration of the natural beauty of the land as opposed to the glorification of our military prowess.
