(4-14-12, cont'd.) Because I'm soft on crime, I believe the shooter should cop a plea to second-degree murder or whatever felony charge his lawyer can plea-bargain. He also should be put into solitary confinement, because I've heard prisons aren't very safe places for men convicted of hurting women or children. And he should never be allowed to own, use or carry firearms again, because he did something stupid and fatal with a firearm. (I think being convicted of a felony means you can never own firearms again.)

(4-14-12) I went to Starbucks today and got myself a hot chocolate with two pumps of raspberry syrup. Hopefully one of these also will be delivered to Trayvon Martin at the Starbucks at the end of the world.

Newspaper articles and letters have accused the neighborhood-watch captain of profiling Trayvon Martin by race and choice of attire. One part of this issue which has not been addressed is the vigilante-justice issue, and another is how to address the aftermath if vigilante justice goes terribly wrong. Most people who adamantly defend the Second Amendment right to carry firearms also would say it is the mark of a yellow-bellied, lily-livered coward to shoot an unarmed man. (And how much more so if one shoots an unarmed child?)

There are arguments made that the engine of history is not class but the availability and willingness to use force. That applies to our personal history as well as to social and world history, I think.
This horrible instance of our collective loss is a further illustration of this tragic possibility: that the use of force to resolve the real and imagined stresses is the core problem.I love this strip and the care it delivers to its concerns. This is a long struggle. Carry it on!

This series broke my heart, and made me think. I wish you didn't have to draw it. I hope you never have to draw one like it again.

    Brilliant series. Thank you.
