In my opinion, they should give scholarships to people who are seniors wanting to return to college.

Seriously i think c-dawgs last point is his best one; I spent 4 yrs learning I didn't want to be a psychologist. Then when I got into the real world, I became an engineer, getting my education in bits and pieces with tons of real time education.

The one unsaid in all of this: would anyone be questioning whether Justin Combs deserved this scholarship if he were a (rich) white kid?

I wish I could convince myself that things would be viewed the same, but…

Mmmm. This is the first I've heard of this; you are probably right. That's sad.

Given how unreachable college is for many at the moment, I think that both need and merit should be taken into account with scholarships. And I have little patience with sports scholarships–football scholarships in particular, because they are renowned for having nothing to do with academia at all. That being said, one celebrity kid isn't going to hurt anything. And it probably made the news because he's proud of it as an athlete, which is totally understandable, since there's a lot of competition for those things and he must be really talented. Besides that, with such a famous father he probably feels a lot of extra pressure to be a success in his own right, outside of his father's shadow. And he's already doing it! Good for him.

I was watching TV about responses. One response was really very astute. This man (white), said that the particular scholarship he got was for talent and not need; however, since his dad is so rich, he is hoping the dad will voluntarily contribute a donation to the college as a charitable act. That sounds right to me. But, it's none of my business. It would be very kind of his dad to do so. In fact, if ALL rich people of ALL races gave money to the colleges, there could be more scholarships for EVERYone who needs them.
