   My dad was like this — I have to remind myself every so often to be different, and to treasure my children's (and eventually grandchildren's … if I'm still around) gifts.

   They may not understand my attachment to old things like my Nikon FE, but that shouldn't mean that I would blithely disregard my progeny's expression of affection.
