     My theory of this is that the in-person Darrin Bell experience is so much more fun and enriching than what can be fully conveyed in a strip that the people who know Darrin don't buy the book because they know it pale in comparison to talking with him. It's kind of like how the people who read the book usually don't like the movie because so much is lost when the intricate character development and careful plot development is compressed into a movie.
