   Just wanted to say how much I loved your tribute to Morrie Turner in the style of Wee Pals/Soul Corner. How fitting to see it in the Oakland Tribune the other week. He and his wife also gave support to AIDS activism; joining us for an ACT UP/East Bay cultural event years ago. You are his inheritor and keep up the good work!

   I was so happy to see the tribute to Morrie Turner, was waiting for it in fact! He was something of a local hero around the Bay Area. I love that you put him in Soul Corner.

   I had Black Studies courses in COLLEGE and never learned about this famous man! Back then, I suppose, there were fewer mentions of him in the textbooks?

   I'd like to add my voice to those who want to thank you for posting the comic about a wonderful person who has touched so many lives including my own. If not for you, I and more than a few others would not have known about his passing.

   I remember when Wee Pals appeared in the Detroit News. My elementary-school brain had only one concern: how did it compare to Peanuts? (I read both intently, I was fascinated by both of them.)

   It wasn't until years later that I understood what themes were being underscored. It was well-written and I enjoyed it a lot.

     Even as a kid, I liked the underlying message, but found the strips themselves boring. I'm glad he inspired you, because Candorville is great.

   Darrin what a wonderful remembrance of a truly wonderful man. We've come a long way since those early days. But we have a long, long way to go. We need to eliminate hatred, anger and ignorance on both/ all sides. Parents need to teach their children love and tolerance as mine did. It's not the amount of melanin in our skins, it truly is the content of our characters and our hearts. God bless Mr. Turner, I hope he's giving God some good laughs.

    Dear Darrin Bell

    Thank you for this touching tribute to a wonderful man.
    Morrie visited my classroom and captivated the students. He did the same for my wife's classes and many others. We were pleased to join him for the retrospective held in his honor a few years ago at the SF Library, and I always looked forward to hearing from him over the holidays.
    Morrie Turner was a gentle man and a gentleman. We will miss him.
