  1. PS Org says:

Pitbulls do get a bad rap. That could of easily been a pack of a whole other breed of dog.

  2. chayafradle says:

Very relevant, since a pack of pit bulls mauled a woman jogger to death recently. The man who owned them was charged with murder.

  3. Jenn says:

Most pitbulls aren’t named ‘killer’ or similar.

Does no one research anything, especially on a site that promotes asking questions and the importance of knowledge?

National Geographic points out how rare pitbull attacks are, and you can find it in two seconds using google.

If you don’t want ‘pitts are awesome’ descending on you, don’t make silly stuff like that up? Duh.

The comic is fine, though. It’s about the media hyping up pitts and bad pit bull rearing. It’s great.

I have a horrible feeling the “Pit-Bulls-Are-Awesome” crowd is going to descend on you like a pack of savage dogs for this (as is the usual reaction of those folks whenever anyone dares to point out that those dogs have serious “hair trigger” issues) but I thought I would just get my “Kudos” in first. Are all Pit Bulls homicidal? Of course not! But trying to convince me that they are awesomely perfect family dogs is pretty hard when 99.9% of them have such names as “Killer,” “Jaws,” “Fang,” “Face-Ripper,” etc. Sheesh!

    Anyway, spot-on comic as usual.

That "hair trigger" you note is actually characteristic of all terriers, and if you've ever found yourself the new person in the home of a poorly socialized Yorkshire or Schnauzer, you know what I mean.

The problem is less the dog than the owners, who (for whatever reason…the whys are not my focus today) typically don't give the dogs good social training. That the dogs are so muscular and powerful in the jaw makes that human oversight more potentially problematic, but if the typical Am Stafforshire Terrier owners owned Airedales instead, this strip would be about Airedales.

The names are given by the humans. There are Yorkie's named "Killer" (but, see above).
