  1. John Gamble says:

I think I am going to forward this to a friend who, no joke, once had an IV with caffeine in it before her knee surgery.

Yes, we teased her for that.

      • John Gamble says:

She’s a lord-knows-how-many cups a day drinker of coffee, and she had to go without food or drink before the knee surgery (I guess because of the possible queasiness factor, as she was awake for most of it).

She had terrific migraines as a result. The nurses recalled that another department had the caffeinated IVs (I presume for similar reasons) and got a bag for her. It worked.

We already would joke about the coffee habit; getting caffeine directly into her bloodstream though? That one was good for a long weekend.

        • Darrin Bell says:

I’ve never heard of such a thing, that’s hilarious. I’m going to have to use that, I hope you don’t mind.

          • John Gamble says:

I don’t think anyone would mind. If it matters to your plotting, you may want to check what department uses (or used) it. Some part of my memory wants to say obstetrics, but I’m not sure.
