  1. ChayaFradle says:

Who was the heir to Abe's inheritance? Was it Isaac? Was he the first son, really?

  2. ChayaFradle says:

Israel needs to say "sorry for what happened to Hagar", and Hagar's descendants need to forgive and let bygones be bygones. Step siblings can live together in peace if they want.

  3. ChayaFradle says:

It all started with Father Abe who listened to his wife who said to kick Hagar away into the desert with their child. It has been step brother infighting ever since.

  4. Slipstick says:

Can we send President Carter over there to try to talk some sense into the two sides? If he could work his magic between Israel and Egypt, maybe lightning can strike twice.

  5. Steven S says:

also remember our understanding of what's going on over there is limited to what the news channels we watch can find out, and how they choose to spin it. Most Americans (including myself) know little at all about what is really happening to cause the "initial attacks", just what the news tells us.

  6. Jeff says:

Revenge? I have never heard that fighting back after being attacked was 'revenge'?
It is more like attack, attack, atttack (by Hamas), counter-attack (by Israel), attack, attack, attack (by Hamas) Israel offers to talk but Hamas attacks again, counter attack again.
You are right in that there is nothing new but that is what happens when Hamas declares that their intent is to eradicate Israel from the face of the earth.

    • Darrin Bell says:

Yeah, and Palestinians believe it's Hamas that's "counter-attacking" Israel. It's tempting to chalk it all up to their being obsessed with wiping Israel off the map, but there are almost always proximate causes for their attacks. You and I may think those causes are often BS excuses, but that doesn't change the fact that they believe they've been attacked and are responding to that. Even the ones that seem, to you, me and most of the world, to be unprovoked acts of terrorism, are seen by the Arab world as battles in the insurgency against an ongoing, illegitimate military occupation of Palestine.

This time, Hamas says their attack was a "counter attack" sparked by Israel's assassination of Hamas strongman Ahmed Jabari. Palestinians believe Israel KNEW that Jabari was actively working on a treaty for sustained peace, but assassinated him anyway (and an Israeli peace activist who was working with him supports that assertion).

I suspect there was a lot more to their decision to assassinate him than that, but to the Palestinians, it was an unprovoked attack by a government that's not interested in peace.

      One side's "counter-attack" is another side's "revenge."
