So, why does anyone HAVE to spell correctly? Why can't we spell phonetically? It would make more sense! EX: TELEPHONE could be spelled TELEFONE if there were freedom to spell how we want to spell. But, there are, in fact, restrictions on freedom. I, myself, feel a great deal of angst when stores have huge signs with misspelled words. Why should I feel that way?
