  1. Robert says:

Well, since taxes are robbery, I'm guessing you believe government to be organized crime. Oddly, I still cling to the outdated idea that government is not an alien parasite on human societies, but an integral PART of human societies. Both the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the USA have governmental systems that provide a voice to citizens – it's called voting.

But I suppose that's less emotionally satisfying than 'TAXED ENOUGH ALREADY!'

    • ChayaFradle says:

Speaking as a devil's advocate, I do remember wondering how government can get away with double taxation. In other words, you have federal taxes taken out, you have local taxes taken out, and then when you go to the store, you pay taxes on items. When you leave your money to your kids when you die (which monies had already been previously taxed), your kids have to pay tax to receive the money. Even on those talk shows where they GIVE gifts to poor people, the people have to pay taxes before they can receive the gifts. So, it's like you're taxed on things that have already been taxed, and then you have more taxes. Maybe there should be one salary given to all people, no matter what kind of CEO they are and one tax taken from all people. No way of getting out of it through conniving and deductions. Then, there needs to be a way to ENSURE that the programs we vote on GET that tax money and that the monies are not diverted to programs we do NOT vote for, such as the wars, etc, or wherever they siphon it. I don't know the answer. That's why we have a system of voting, as you said. I don't think the government is robbing us, but I do think PEOPLE in the government are sometimes motivated not by benevolence but by power and greed. It makes no sense to me that as SOON as Obama got into office, there were plans by the Republicans and others to shout him down, take him down, prevent him from succeeding, and nearly hold our whole nation hostage until they destroy Obama. That is deplorable.

Jesus was a socialist … that's why they killed him then … and they would do it again ….

  2. ChayaFradle says:

Why couldn't we be more like Holland or those countries where yes, the taxes are high, but buying homes is EASIER, everyone gets PAID to go to college, there is health care for EVERYONE?

    • Jim says:

Why don't YOU move to Holland, then?

      • ChayaFradle says:

What's wrong, Jim, you don't think I should have free speech?

        • Jim says:

Yes, I think you should have free speech, but I'm going to exercise mine in response to you. So allow me to share a choice libertarian quote in regards to your praising of Holland's high tax rate:

"A government that robs Peter to pay Paul can always depend on the support of Paul." – George Bernard Shaw.

          • ChayaFradle says:

This is a philosophical conundrum. On the one hand, we have our statue of liberty saying to give us your poor, which insinuates we take care of our own. On the other hand, we only have limited resources and need to help our own selves first before others. If you are Peter, and insist on living a lavish and extravagant lifestyle, you don't want to share your wealth with others. If you are Peter, yet live close to the belt and are not ABLE to share, that's another story. If you are Paul, you know that you're trying the hardest you can but are in a terrible predicament with no one to help. Paul can then use all available resources, but if they don't help, Paul can fall into such a deep depression and feeling of hopelessness that he may commit suicide. Alternately, he may go towards the criminal vent to steal to get food (which the Bible says no one would fault him for that). In fact, the Bible also says if you are a farmer, you must leave a portion of your field for the poor to pick his own food from your farm. So, as I said, this is a conundrum. You, Jim, have chosen to look at it one way. I look at it another, although when I used to be working, of course I was APPALLED at all the taxes being taken from my paycheck. I was a single mom and needed that money to take care of my kids. I was living paycheck to paycheck, and often in arrears. I very much needed that money to survive, and was angry at the government for taking it from me. Now that I'm a senior, I am happy that I can get a portion of it back. Social security isn't really even enough to pay a rent check. There have to be other programs to help seniors live and not die. I know many seniors in my building who live in a pathetic lifestyle. Anyway, my views have changed as I aged. The young can be angry about taxes. The old rely on government money.

    I believe MORE in unicorns!

  4. Robert says:

I miss the good old days of tax-and-spend liberals. Borrow-and-spend is a mug's game. As time goes by, more and more money will be needed to service the debt, until . . . well, read about Germany in the early 1920s for a hint.

  5. Jim says:

I'd have no problem with taxes being raised if the money was going to necessary programs. But you all have to admit what that tax money will be going towards: bullshit like the TSA, the "war on drugs", unnecessary military actions in Iraq and Libya, keeping Gitmo open, pointless bailouts, wasteful pork programs, paying our worthless politicians to screw us over… need I go on?

  6. Jim says:

To be fair, the government hasn't been so hot in job creation either.

  7. Michael Ventrella says:

Every time I try to link one of these cartoons to Facebook, all I get is the URL and not the cartoon posted on Facebook. Is that something your webmaster can look into or is that something unfixable? I'd like to share, but people are much more likely to click on a cartoon than on an URL.

    • John says:

How are you doing the linking? With an 'img' tag or an 'a' tag?

(I've had no problem via Live Journal).

    • Darrin Bell says:

I don't know how to fix that, the code is all self contained in a WordPress plugin. I know when you share it to Google+ it includes the image, but I don't think the others do.

      • Michael Ventrella says:

Ah, oh well. I copy the URL but when I punch it into Facebook, it just does the link and not the image. If I post it on a Bulletin Board (which I often do over at Comics Curmudgeon) I use the img tag and it works fine.

        • Darrin Bell says:

If you hit the "like" button here you shouldn't have to paste the link because it should be automatically included. Maybe not pasting the link will fix it?
