Not to support Joe Wilson who did in fact commit a great breach of precedent and show an amazing lack of respect for President Obama (who unlike Bush, as some above have noted, was not lying), but the phrase doesn't mean what you think it means:

Obama went out of his way NOT to call Bush a liar, and Bush was the BIGGEST liar of all! Loved Tara's comment, also. The title of the news was AWESOME. NEWS WEAK. Hahaha.
I am NOT amused by the number of people who, when supporting Joe Wilson's outburst use the words "calling a spade a spade". I actually heard a politician say this on public radio. Google this phrase [ joe wilson obama liar calling a spade a spade ] and see how many people are using the same rude and thinly disguised remark. I am from the South and not black and am very clear about what the meaning of the phrase is. I think it would be a nice counter point to today's comic to mention this.

Living in the South I'm amused by the notion that none of the people who started talking about secession after fewer than 100 days are not racist.
