LOL. I didn't know they existed, so to me, they weren't there. I've never been to the flagship Macy's in NYC. Was that where they first showed up?
When Macy's was built. It was new-fangled and wondrous, the escalator. Now it's old and rickety, but it's still there. At least, it was the one time I went to Macy's. Bloomingdale's had better sales.

I sincerely doubt you're older than the wooden escalators at the flagship Macy's in NYC.
He shouldn't get discouraged - after all, what is the Slanket, but a GIANT ROBE ONE WEARS BACKWARDS?
Many, many decades ago, I told someone how great it would be to have moveable steps and a moveable sidewalk. We laughed. Later, someone invented escalators and moveable sidewalks. I could have kicked myself for not patenting the idea!
