Ah, yes. Back during the Bush I recession, I was pregnant and laid off...but didn't file for unemployment because I didn't want to lie about looking for work. The day we made the final car payment (baby now three months old) my husband was laid off. And wasn't sure he should apply for unemployment because he had some severance pay...good thing baby was there to change his mind.
Wow. I am so glad you made it through that rough time in your life~ !! Yes, a child will often motivate us to do things our pride would usually prevent us from doing, such as asking for help.
