My dad was like this --- I have to remind myself every so often to be different, and to treasure my children's (and eventually grandchildren's ... if I'm still around) gifts.
They may not understand my attachment to old things like my Nikon FE, but that shouldn't mean that I would blithely disregard my progeny's expression of affection.
