Thanks for clearing that up

Spread the love

This has been going around the internets for a day or two. Anyone know who wrote it?:

Just to clear things up – I’m a little confused. Let me see if I have this straight….. If you grow up in Hawaii, raised by your grandparents, you’re “exotic, different.”

Grow up in Alaska eating mooseburgers: a quintessential American story.

If your name is Barack you’re a radical, unpatriotic Muslim.

Name your kids Willow, Trig, and Track: you’re a maverick.

Graduate from Harvard Law School and you are unstable.

Attend 5 different small colleges before graduating: you’re well grounded.

If you spend 3 years as a brilliant community organizer, become the first black President of the Harvard Law Review, create a voter registration drive that registers 150,000 new voters, spend 12 years as a Constitutional Law professor, spend 8 years as a State Senator representing a district with over 750,000 people, become chairman of the state Senate’s Health and Human Services committee, spend 4 years in the United States Senate representing a state of 13 million people while sponsoring 131 bills and serving on the Foreign Affairs, Environment and Public Works and Veteran’s Affairs committees, you don’t have any real leadership experience.

If your total resume is: local weather girl (sports caster), 4 years on the city council and 6 years as the mayor of a town with fewer than 7,000 people, 20 months as the governor of a state with 650,000 people, then you’re qualified to become the country’s second highest ranking executive.

If you have been married to the same woman for 19 years while raising 2 daughters, all within Protestant churches, you’re not a real Christian.

If you cheated on your first wife with a rich heiress, and left your disfigured wife and married the heiress the next month, you’re a good moral Christian.

If you teach responsible, age appropriate sex education, including the proper use of birth control, you are eroding the fiber of society.

If, while governor, you staunchly advocate abstinence only, with no other option in sex education in your state’s school system while your unwed teen daughter ends up pregnant, you’re very responsible. If your wife is a Harvard graduate lawyer who gave up a position in a prestigious law firm to work for the betterment of her inner city community, then gave that up to raise a family, your family’s values don’t represent America’s.

If your husband is nicknamed “First Dude”, with at least one DUI conviction and no college education, who didn’t register to vote until age 25 and once was a member of a group that advocated the secession of Alaska from the USA, your family is extremely admirable.

OK, much clearer now…..

“Maybe I’ve misunderstood the meaning of “Racism”.”

I don’t think you have. I think you understand it exactly. And if you watch that video the reader linked to, I’m pretty sure you’ll find that in it’s saying “Don’t paint the white house black,” in its juxtaposition of Obama with Farrakhan (whom he’s repeatedly denounced), and in its erroneous conflation of Obama and Islam (with an obvious negative intention), it fits your definition of racism.

“As for the assertation that there “Is nothing wrong with homosexuality”, tell that to Christians, Jews, Muslims.”

I do. Regularly. I take issue with the notion that it can be “treated,” because that presupposes it’s some sort of malady. I don’t think anyone’s ever proven that it is, without referring to stigma, hypothetical end-of-the-species fantasies, or diseases associated with homosexual behavior (those diseases themselves are maladies, but many, if not most, homosexuals can and do avoid them by practicing safe sex). Some try to argue it’s some sort of affliction by positing it can’t be good for children, but there have been no scientific studies that I’m aware of that have shown that the children raised by homosexuals are any more dysfunctional than the rest of us. Given all that, I don’t see what there is that needs “treating.” If it’s genetic, then it’s who a person is and I think that’s great. If it’s choice, then it’s that person’s choice to make and if it makes him/her happy, I also think that’s great. And I have yet to hear a rational reason to believe that their identity or their choice affects anyone other than them.

“McCain did a lot of time in VeitNam. What’s Obama’s service?”

Several years as a community organizer helping disadvantaged citizens cope with sudden job loss and urban blight, followed by a dozen years teaching Constitutional law in a nation where that sort of education is sorely needed. Being in the military isn’t the only way to serve your nation. And it doesn’t mean the person’s going to be a good leader. Eisenhower is perhaps an exception to that, because the skill set he demonstrated as a tactician and a successful commander of a multinational force indicated he’d bring the same to the White House.

But as for the rest of them, I’ll be frank. Kennedy’s military service proved nothing except that he knew how to get his boat sunk. McCain’s service proves nothing except that he knew how to crash four airplanes and get shot down in another one. Carter’s service proved that he knew his way around a submarine. The three most successful wartime presidents, Lincoln, Polk, and FDR, had little or no military experience (Lincoln saw no action as a private and was a captain for a couple of weeks). The ones who oversaw Vietnam, Kennedy, Johnson and Nixon, had plenty of active military experience (in WW2). All were courageous in their own ways, whether or not they wore a uniform, but that uniform has never been a predictor of presidential acumen.

“I can guess for whom some people are voting. And some people are easier to predict than others.”

I would hope you could tell whom I’m voting for, considering how what I critique the most in my comics are hypocrites and liars, and there’s one candidate in this election who’s been dominating both categories for some time now. I think people should vote their conscience, not their fears. If you disagree with a person’s tactics and policies, voting for him just because the other guy is either black or old is moronic.

Maybe I’ve misunderstood the meaning of “Racism”. I always believed that Racism was the act of hating someone or abusing someone because of his heritage, regardless of other factors, simply because of that hertitage (In other words you believe on race to be superior to another.). If I hated Poles, abused poles, told “Polish Jokes”, that would make me racist. If I refused to hire someone of color who was more qualified than a “white man” simply because of his color or “race” that would be racism based discrimination. I’ve said many times: “There is but one race on this world. It’s the HUMAN race.”
I don’t give a flying pig about color. Ask anyone I’ve met.

As for the assertation that there “Is nothing wrong with homosexuality”, tell that to Christians, Jews, Muslims. Some countries will put these folks to death. Although I do not agree with the lifestyle, I am of the opinion that it can be treated. If you claim “Genetic” it can be treated. If it’s choice, then it’s a choice that can be changed.

McCain did a lot of time in VeitNam. What’s Obama’s service? 33 of our Presidents had military service. Even Clinton had ROTC, even if he received a bunch of deferments. Biden received Medical exemption. Lincoln attained the rank of Captain, but re-enlisted as a Private.

I can guess for whom some people are voting. And some people are easier to predict than others.

I leave you with a favorite quote of mine. “A man who cannot reason is a fool. A man who will not reason is a bigot. A man who dares not reason is a slave.” Of course, this doesn’t mean you can’t reach the same conclusion each time. But at least you consider all evidence as it comes to light.

I was just a little confused since I had heard about this just the other day and I was hearing a lot of conflicting information and couldn’t find it on his website at the time.
I first heard about it when my friends (who are a little annoyed I talk about Obama so much) called me up and said “DIDJA HEAR OBAMA SUPPORTS INFANTICIDE?!”
A quick search and it says he voted against the Infant Protection act, and not much more.
I’m sure a lot of people are misinformed since McCain supporters (like my friends) are just jumping on it.

  4. PeaceZGood says:

Sick. If they were just misinformed, a quick look at Obama’s website would clear it up. Sick. That’s my vote.

  5. Darrin Bell says:

    MCsweeTea,

Obama’s explained the vote several times. Here’s what was up with that:

He spoke in support of the Federal BAIPA because it included this language protecting Roe vs. Wade: “(c) Nothing in this section shall be construed to affirm, deny, expand, or contract any legal status or legal right applicable to any member of the species homo sapiens at any point prior to being ”born alive” as defined in this section.”

The Illinois version of the act, the one he voted against, did NOT include that language. Those fetuses born early as a result of a botched abortion would be have the rights of human beings, but because of the Equal Protection clause of the Constitution, so would those fetuses who are successfully aborted. Opening the door to prosecuting women and doctors who perform abortions for murder. The Illinois act was a clear attempt to establish a basis for overturning Roe v. Wade. The reason it was clear was that Illinois ALREADY had a law on the books protecting all infants, no matter how they were born.

The people who are trying to say this is evidence that Obama supports infanticide are either misinformed or sick.

  6. PeaceZGood says:

What is the Born Alive act? In any case, look it up on FactCheck.Org and also look at Obama’s website where he has answers to all these questions. The other day, I once again was with a person who spouted euphemisms which he had heard that sounded like great “catch phrases” that would make a person feel important by spreading them, as if that person was so intelligent. I respected this person and his status in the organization I was in, so I just listened and kept saying, “Really? Oh. Are you sure? Oh. Really? Oh, I wouldn’t have known that. Really?” And then, I said, “You know all the things you are saying sound terrible, but that there is probably another layer of reasoning or truth surrounding what you’re saying, right?” We eventually settled on the fact that the Republicans MEANT WELL in what they were doing with the economy, but it didn’t work, and the Democrats MEANT WELL when they had unions and organized, but now the unions don’t always represent the people. They represent themselves and staying in power all too often. I explained they were ORIGINALLY meant to stop sweatshop conditions and allow people to have lunch breaks and other rest breaks, and not be overworked and underpaid. They were originally supposed to PROTECT the workers from being abused and misused, but now they often DO NOT GET INVOLVED any more in those things and only stress more money. Things change,, but that doesn’t mean we have to vilify one or the other. Of course, I don’t follow that advice myself when it comes to Republican (especially Bushism) politics and lack of concern for the middle and lower class. I sort of do vilify and I know it’s not nice. But I do.

  7. MCsweeTea says:

Darrin, about the “Obama is for babykilling” comment, I think he was referring to Obama voting against the Born Alive act several times. Now, I’m all for a woman’s right to choose. Really. But whats the point of killing a viable baby?
I love Obama but I just didn’t understand what was up with that.

  8. Darrin Bell says:

A reader named "J.A." sent the following note this morning:

"The Thanks for Clearing That Up posting forgot a few things about Obama. He admitted to drug use, is for baby killing abortion, is for homosexuality, and his brother is living in a hut in Kenya on $10 a year. That sure makes Obama sound like a family man. Plus he is millionaire lawyer who campaigned in Hollywood at a $28,000 a plate fundraiser. Yup, he sure sounds like one of us common people who make less than that a year. Also, he lived in another country for awhile.

A link to a good parody is below.

    <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LWt6izhuy24"

    ” target=”_blank”>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LWt6izhuy24"

And here was my response to him:

"I'll answer you point by point, since it seems a few more odd notions need clearing up:

Yeah, he admitted to drug use when in his teens, before he learned better — like tens of millions of average Americans. But unlike Cindy McCain, he didn't steal those drugs from a charity AS AN ADULT, leading to that charity being forced to shut down. He's for a woman's right to choose what to do with her own body, but unlike Governor Palin, he's also in favor of sex education that would help prevent a woman from ever having to make that choice. There's nothing wrong with homosexuality. Obama barely knows his HALF brother; Do you financially support every person in your family you've ever met twice? He's a millionaire not because he's a lawyer; he made $12k per year as a lawyer. He made his millions selling books that he wrote all by himself; unlike McCain, who made his millions by dumping his crippled wife and marrying a younger millionaire less than a month later (there's your "family man" for you). There's nothing wrong with living in another country for awhile.

And that's not a parody, that's racism. If you approve of it, if you find it funny, or even if you don't understand why I'm saying it's racist, you're not a "common person" at all. You're a bigot.

    Thanks for writing.

    Best,

I am firmly convinced that the majority of American voters are gullible and believe the lies which will make them feel better about hating a smart Black man. I hope that the election proves me wrong. We’ll see, won’t we? Signed- angry and pissed off at Rush Limbaugh and his footsoldiers
