Y'know, I find it fascinating that everyone is commenting on the grammar (and the grammar police) and not on the *crime being plotted* (which has been going on for a couple of strips at least).
For heaven's sake, don't follow a comic strip for your grammar needs. Read Geoff Pullum or any linguist or grammarian more modern than Miss Thistlebottom.
It has probably been mentioned before, but I'm rather new here, so I'll mention it again. A collection of the grammar strips, in one handy bedside book, would be awesome. I live with a grammarian and I need help.

As a former teacher, I say the same things as Lemont, and get the same reactions. This is REAL life!!!!!!!!! ♞
